February is the month we celebrate Valentine’s Day, but it is also Heart Health month. In the US 1 in every 4 deaths is due to heart disease according to the CDC. With that said, we believe taking care of your heart should be a top priority and is the best gift you can give your loved one this year!

A healthy diet never hurts and can greatly increase one’s defense against heart disease. Eating foods rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids is important because our bodies do not naturally make DHA and EPA and those nutrients may decrease triglycerides, lower blood pressure, and reduce blood clotting.

Here is a list of some of our favorite foods containing Omega-3s:

  • Almonds
  • Black and Kidney Beans
  • Chick Peas
  • Flax Seeds (Ground)
  • Lentils
  • Steel-Cut Oats
  • Walnuts

For a super heart healthy breakfast add almonds, walnuts, and ground flax seed to your steel-cut oats! YUM!
