Sarah is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and registered nurse with over 22 years of combined experience in healthcare. Prior to joining CentreSpringMD, she served on Active Duty in the United States Air Force and spent several years as a healthcare administrative noncommissioned officer and field medic at military bases throughout the country. She graduated from the Medical College of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and spent the next eight years as a registered nurse in the acute care setting in a critical access emergency department, the intensive care unit, and a Level I trauma center emergency department in downtown Atlanta. While working in the acute care setting, Sarah quickly realized a resounding deficit that resulted in once preventable conditions evolving into chronic, comorbid disease processes. This awareness led her to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing from Georgia Southern University to become a family nurse practitioner and devote her career to providing medical care centered on wellness instead of illness. After obtaining her graduate degree and board certification, she was selected to serve as one of four residents in Georgia’s first postgraduate family nurse practitioner residency program, which provided a vast array of enhanced education, specialty clinical rotations, and research while working as a family nurse practitioner.
Sarah has observed the detrimental impacts that stress, lifestyle choices, polypharmacy, lack of collaborative care teams, and scarcity of patient education can have on patients and families. Her experience outlines a multidimensional approach and understanding of compassionately caring for patients while addressing their unique needs. Understanding that the allopathic medicine realm can temporarily mute a medical condition without taking into consideration the root cause and other motivating factors that can augment health and wellness, she realizes medical care and patient care is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Her goal is to transform provider and patient relationships, focus on the core concerns of each individual patient, empower patients to achieve their maximal health and wellness potential, and enrich each patient’s quality of life through a functional and integrative medicine approach.
